Ketamine had this firm belief she could do without anyone and anything. She could give the slip to reality when it gets too harsh on her. She could shut down the computer and turn her face away from joy and sorrow when she wished. She could leave the city and stop herself from turning the page. She could strain her ears to perceive the infrequent sounds of a new city and forget ‘behind blue eyes’. She could guile random strangers into believing she’s twenty-four and stop the reverberating “young flesh” from piercing her. She could return to the arms of her man after ten days and start everything afresh.
She still believes so…. or at least her pride does.
